Strawberry guava is a small tree (2–6 m tall) in the Myrtaceae (myrtle) family. The species is named in honour of English horticulturist William Cattley. Its genus name Psidium comes from the Latin psidion, or "armlet."[ The red-fruited variety, P. cattleyanum var. cattleyanum, is commonly known as purple guava, red cattley guava, red strawberry guava and red cherry guava.

The seeds for this strawberry guava were started in December of 2021 from the mother plant near my pond. This plant produces an amazing bouncy ball sized fruit that will remind you of Mardi Gras. The taste is a sort of sweet squishy lemon, absolutely amazing and unique. The plant is hardy down to 22 degrees. Guava are also reported to work symbiotically with citrus. This will not die back to the roots during a freeze. Plant in a SW facing location in full sun. Prices vary depending upon size. A one gallon pot is sixty. Four-inch pot thirty. Plugs for five dollars (minimum of six mixed and matched with other guava)
