Jungle Jim's Purple Sugar Apple Trees (Annona Squamosa)

from $25.00

These purple sugar apple seedlings are delicious specimens that came from, of all places, Ohio. Jungle Jim’s. If you have never been to this place, man, I’m telling you. Imagine Buccee’s but as a grocery store from around the world. You never know what you might find there. And you never know what might be way way back in the DNA of this mystery or just what surpises she might deliver.

The texture is creamier than your traditional sugar apple and the flavor has subtle hints of berry. There are also notes of vanilla, pineapple, and mango. These seeds were started in September of 2023 and have nice healthy wooden stems. They are available in four-inch pots or gallon pots. They can be bumped up into bigger pots and kept five or six feet for easy harvest.

Sugar Apple trees grown from seed can start bearing fruit in 3-5 years, but it can take as little as two to three years. I have a tree from seed that was started and just passed her second winter. She already gave one fruit and is loaded with more flowers. A five-year old tree can produce up to fifty sugar apples!

They will want to be protected or brought in for the winter. The good news is that they don’t need to be in huge pots and one can easily carry a six foot tree inside the home, garage, or greenhouse.
