Ecuadorian Tree Tomato
These delicious tree tomatoes came from hong Kong Market and were originally from Ecuador. This was my first experience with this fruit and though I had heard that the taste had hints of tomato, I did not notice this. gelatinous pulp around the seeds tasted to me like what would happen if somebody took a quarter of a white guava and smashed and mixed this with three quarters of an apricot.
I have managed to acclimate dwarf tamarillo to New Orleans and am currently working on doing the same with Naranjilla (Lulo). Both of these plants will sometimes come back from the rootstock after the winter. They can also be grown in a pot or started late in the year and then put out the march of the next year to be grown as an annual.
