Blackberry Jam Fruit (Randia Formosa)
This is my first time growing this fruit. After hearing about it, I thought how perfect it would be to be able to offer this along with the ever popular Banjo's Peanut Butter Fruit as a package deal. I sourced these seeds from a reputable grower in Florida who goes by the Latin for housefly, acheta domestica. The seeds were started on 7/16/24.
Blackberry jam fruit is supposed to taste just like that, blackberry jam. The fruit hunter, Adam Leith, who I have always found to be accurate with any descriptions of rare fruits that I have tasted, said that Blackberry Jam Fruit is so much more than that, that limiting the nuance of this fruit to that simplicity does not do it justice.
The fruit has a hard outer shell that when opened oozes out this dark viscous liquid. Adam describes this as a chestnut honey flavor with undertones of raisin or prune and a hint of rose. He goes so far as to call it floral and sweet and really seems to be enjoying it on his video.
I'm excited to try this, and I hope that you are, too.
