Achachairu Selecto (Garcinia Humilis)
This seed was especially selected in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Medium to large size, very sweet and prolific setting 2-3 crops per year, round type (no nipple).
Achachairú originated in Bolivia. It was renamed in Australia as Achacha (last three letters removed) for convenient pronunciation. It's in the same genus as mangosteen, gamboge, and imbe (garcinia) and has very similar visual and texture characteristics to the fruits in its genus. It looks like an imbe on the outside and a mangosteen on the inside.
The flavor is the perfect balance of sour and sweet. It's not overwhelmingly sour. If you've ever eaten a mangosteen and a gamboge, it sits somewhere in between those on the flavor/sour scale. I think it tastes like Lemonhead candies.
These are grown best outdoors in zones 10-11 and patio zone is 4-11! It’s a great container plant! The seeds take a while to sprout. THEY TAKE A FEW MONTHS when I say a while I mean a WHILE. Do NOT give up on these little seeds. Keep them moist and in some sunlight and they should do very well. They are capable of producing fruit in 5 years from SEED
